Zeltwanger Nets 100th Goal, Mercer Downs Stetson In Overtime

DeLAND, Fla. – Lindsey Zeltwanger became Mercer's first player to score 100 career goals as the Bears rallied for a 13-12 overtime in against Stetson. Mercer overcame a five-goal deficit in the second half, marking the largest deficit overcome in a win in program history.

With the win, Mercer improved to 6-1 in ASUN play and secured a spot in the ASUN Tournament for the second straight year. The Bears are continuing to break records as Mercer has already surpassed the program's single-season win record and single-season conference win record.

Zeltwanger led the Bears with four points off two goals and two assists, while Kate Leone also had four points off a team-high three goals and one assist. Zeltwanger entered the game with 99 career goals and reached the century mark just over 15 minutes into the game. The junior is also Mercer's career points leader with 194 points off 101 goals and 93 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first four goals of the game were all free-position goals as each team scored two and the game was tied with 20:46 left in the first half. Stetson scored three unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 lead, but Zeltwanger scored her 100th career goal to slow the Hatters down and cut their lead to 4-3. In the final 14 minutes of the half, Stetson outscored Mercer 3-2 to take a 7-5 lead at halftime.

The Hatters opened the second half with three straight goals, stretching their lead to 10-5 with 22:10 remaining. Meghan Segreti and Leone scored back-to-back goals to put the Bears back within three, 10-7, less than three minutes later. After a Stetson goal interrupted Mercer's momentum, the Bears embarked on a 4-0 run that tied the game, 11-11, with 3:55 on the clock. Stetson retook the lead, 12-11, with 3:13 to play and looked likely to hold on for the win. Zeltwanger scored on her second free-position attempt of the day to tie the game once more, 12-12, with just 40 seconds remaining and ultimately sending the game to overtime.

After over five minutes of overtime play, Eva Thorn fired off a shot and scored an unassisted goal to end the game and give Mercer the 13-12 win.
