Zeltwanger Notches 200th Point, Mercer Falls to Furman in Overtime

MACON, Ga. – Lindsey Zeltwanger dished out three assists and scored her 200th career point on Wednesday afternoon as Furman edged Mercer, 10-9, in overtime at Five Star Stadium. Meghan Segreti scored a team-leading three goals and Kate Christian notched two goals and an assist to help lead Mercer's offense.

Mercer moves to 7-2 in ASUN play and is now tied with Furman for third place in the standings. The Bears will face Coastal Carolina, who is currently in second place, on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer scored first off a free-position goal from Segreti, but Furman answered quickly and knotted the score, 1-1, less than two minutes into the game. The Paladins added another goal to take a 2-1 lead, but the Bears answered with three straight goals to go up 4-2 with 11:53 remaining in the first half. Mercer's 4-2 lead was the largest of the game, as Furman added a pair of goals to tie the game 5-5 headed into halftime.

Segreti started the second half with her third goal of the day, but Furman added a pair to retake the lead, 6-5, with 22:33 to play. The teams traded goals for the remainder of regulation, with Furman taking a one-goal lead and Mercer tying it up each time. The Bears last tied the game, 9-9, with 3:54 on the clock and neither team scored in those final minutes, sending the game to overtime. Furman came up with the draw control and after a shot, turned the ball over, giving the Bears a chance to score. Eva Thorn fired off a great shot, which unfortunately hit the crossbar, and the Paladins came up with the ensuing ground ball and were able to score on the second trip to their offensive third, ending the game, 10-9.
