Bears Fall To Chanticleers On Senior Day

MACON, Ga. – Erica Coyne led the Bears with three goals, while Kate Christian notched a team-high four points on Sunday as Mercer dropped a 16-7 contest to Coastal Carolina.

Mercer wrapped up the ASUN regular season with a 7-3 record and earned the No. 4 seed for the tournament. The Bears will face No. 5 Old Dominion on Thursday, May 4 in Jacksonville, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears scored first off a goal from Kelly Hagerty and even went up 2-1 just over 10 minutes into the game. The Chanticleers scored four unanswered goals to close out the first half however and Coastal Carolina had a 5-2 lead at halftime.

Mercer once again scored the first goal of the period, cutting Coastal Carolina's lead to 5-3 early in the second half. The Chanticleers added some breathing room once again with a 3-0 spurt that put them up 8-3. Christian and Coyne each added a goal to close the gap to 8-5 with 12:49 on the clock. After another goal from each team, Coastal Carolina went on a 6-0 run lasting almost seven minutes and stretching its lead to 15-6 with just 2:41 on the clock. Both teams added a goal in the final minutes to move the score to 16-7 as time ran out.

Kate Christian scored a season-high four points off a goal and a season-high three assists. She also grabbed a ground ball. All three of Christian's assists were on Erica Coyne's goals.
