Bears Blow Past Hornets, 26-1

MACON, Ga. – The Bears' offense was overwhelming once again as Mercer cruised past Delaware State, 26-1, on Sunday afternoon. Mercer improved to 5-0 in ASUN play and is now just one win away from qualifying for the ASUN Tournament.

Mercer's 26 goals set a program record for most goals scored in a game and the 25-goal margin of victory is the largest in program history. Both records were short-lived as Mercer set them on Friday in the win over Howard.

A total of 17 Bears scored goals on Sunday, including four for the first time in their careers. Lindsey Zeltwanger led Mercer's offense with five points off three goals and two assists, while Meghan Segreti and Eva Thorn also notched hat tricks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was completely in Mercer's control as the Bears surged to a 10-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game, activating running clock. Mercer added another seven goals in the first half to take a 17-0 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Mercer slowed things down in the second half and Taylor Horner scored first with 19:10 left in the game. The Bears' offense made sure that the senior defender was able to net her first career goal, giving her seven shots in the game. As Mercer worked its way to a 26-0 advantage, Mackenzie Minnick, Jocelyn Pena and Kasey Thom all scored their first career goals as well. Delaware State scored its lone goal of the game with just nine seconds remaining as the Hornets were able to avoid their second shutout of the season.

- Nawal Alami notched a goal and an assist for a career-high-tying two points to go with her two draw controls and one ground ball.
- In goal, Haleigh Wurzel made one save, while Michele Holmes made a season-high four saves. Dylan Malamala was in goal for over nine minutes in the second half, which is a career-high.
