
Mercer Finishes Seventh at SoCon Championships

Bears total their most conference championship points in program history
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer women's track & field team finished seventh at the Southern Conference Championships with 26 points after day two concluded Friday afternoon at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

The Bears' 26 points are the most in program history at a conference championship event. Mercer's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams set school records and earned seven total points with fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively. The Bears ran the 4x100 in 48.67 seconds while claiming sixth in the 4x400 with a 3:58.72 time.

Myranda Ham earned all-conference honors with a seventh-place finish (1:06.14) in the 400-meter hurdles finals. McKaylin Darsey ran the 1,500-meter run finals in 4:53.94 to earn 11th place.

Four other Bears – Anna Grzeszczak, Kimmie Whiting, Courtney Czerniak and Briana Wahy – competed in the 5,000-meter finals. Grzeszczak claimed 10th place, narrowly missing all-conference placement with a time of 18:35.84. Whiting (18:51.52), Czerniak (19:25.14) and Wahy (21:41.78) finished 13th, 20th and 25th.

Host Samford claimed its second SoCon Outdoor Track & Field title with 245 points. The Bulldogs were followed by Western Carolina (194), Furman (109), ETSU (89), VMI, 66) and Wofford (44). Mercer placed ahead of The Citadel (24), UNCG (11) and Chattanooga (4).
