Bears’ Offense Explodes in 6-0 Shutout Over South Carolina State Sunday

STAT OF THE MATCH
The Bears outshot the Bulldogs 24-1 in the match as the offense was clicking on all cylinders.

Jasmine Spence was the woman of the match, creating two goals for the Bears, earning two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got off to a very strong start, taking an early lead in the 10th minute when Ally Fordham crossed one in to Valeria Bermeo who finished in front of the net.

In the 28th minute the Bears were awarded a penalty kick due to a foul in the box. Senior midfielder Emma Chandlee took the kick for Mercer and beat the keeper, firing it into the back of the net.

Shortly thereafter, Brie Pavol headed one into goal, assisted by Jasmine Spence off of a corner kick in the 29th minute.

In the 34th minute, Madi Johnson rocketed one into the upper corner of the goal from deep, assisted by Jorden Christensen.

Mercer entered the locker room with a 4-0 lead.

The Bears didn't let off the gas as they continued to press for more goals in the second half. That is exactly what they found in the 56th minute when Caroline Smith scored her second goal of the season, heading one in, assisted by Alexius Hill.

In the 83rd minute, Madeline Alhamra earned her first collegiate goal when she curled one past the keeper, assisted by Jasmine Spence.

Mercer continued to fight for another goal but the score held strong as the Bears earned their fifth shutout of the season, 6-0.

• Goalkeeper Payton Jamieson saw her second half of collegiate action, playing the entire first period of the match. Jamieson is now 2-0-0 on the season while in the goal.
• Jasmine Spence earned a team-high and season-high two assists on the match.
