Bears Open Conference Schedule at Home
Â
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team (4-7) is set to kick off its conference schedule with a home opener against Wofford and The Citadel, this weekend. Mercer's first match will be against Wofford on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., followed by another match at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 against The Citadel in Hawkins Arena.

Wofford, ranking third in the SoCon, is traveling to Bear territory Friday. The Terriers head into Macon with a 9-5 record, after finishing 3-0 at the Georgia State Invitational last weekend. Wofford is led by Taylor Gill, who was just named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. Gill, Catie Cronister and Riley Coonan were named to the All-Tournament team for the Georgia State Invitational. The Terriers fell in their home opener to Furman on Wednesday, 3-1.

The Bulldogs most recently defeated Savannah State, 3-0, on Tuesday to improve to 5-11. The Citadel is led by Moriah Smith with 134 kills, averaging 3.19 per set. Megan Fuhr and McKenzie Boland have combined for 476 assists, as Fuhr leads the way with 254. Sarah Dobrich backs the defense with 47 total blocks for the season. The Bulldogs will travel to Samford tomorrow to start their conference schedule before traveling to Macon to face the Bears on Saturday.

- Paige Alsten leads the SoCon in hitting percentage (.396) and ranks third in blocks per set (1.02).
- Alsten is also ranked 36th in the NCAA Division I rankings for hitting percentage.
- Alsten made the Charleston Invitational All-Tournament team registering 37 kills and 5 blocks.
- Emily Krogman and Morgan MacGilvary both contributed a double-double in the Charleston Invitational.
- Claire Waliczek leads the Bears in assists (373), ranking fifth in the SoCon.
- Emily Krogman ranks third in the SoCon for service aces (19).
- Mercer dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Wofford last season in Hawkins Arena on Nov. 2.
