Bears drop pair of road matches for the weekend
Chattanooga, Tenn. – Mercer (8-9, 1-5 SoCon) fell to the Chattanooga Mocs 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 20-25) on Saturday evening to close out its weekend road trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (17-25) | Chattanooga got the quick jump to the opening set with the first three-straight points. Mercer able to pull the score within one point (6-5) after a 3-0 run, including a kill apiece by Annie Karle and Paige Alsten. The Mocs were able to extend their lead by nine before the Bears sparked a 4-2 run, falling in the first set 25-17.

Set 2 (19-25) | Amber Gibson notched a service ace against the Mocs to begin the second set. The Bears stayed in the lead until Chattanooga score three-straight points putting them ahead 10-8. Mercer stole back the lead twice (11-10 and 15-14) before the Mocs reclaimed the front for the remainder of the set. Chattanooga closed out the set 25-19, outscoring the Bears 11-4.

Set 3 (20-25) | The Mercer leading attacker notched her fourth kill of the match to start the final set. However, after a 4-0 Moc retaliation, Chattanooga quickly reclaimed the lead. Despite the Bears generating a 4-0 run to take the lead 11-10, Chattanooga responded with an 8-2 retaliation to regain the lead (18-13). Mercer was able to pull within only three points before the Mocs closed out the set 25-20.

NOTABLES
- Mercer recorded 42 digs to Chattanooga's 34, including 12 digs from Mercer leader Megan Smith. Amber Gibson followed closely behind with 11 digs. Â
- Freshmen, Brittany Major and Annie Karle tied for a team-high seven kills each. Major also registerd two total blocks.
- Molly Hackett registered a team-high 16 assists, with Maddie Nunley following closely behind with 10 assists. Hackett also recorded five digs and one kill.
- Paige Alsten added four blocks, including two solo blocks, which both were a match-high.Â
