Mercer Travels to Palmetto State to End Road Stretch

The Bears will take on The Citadel at 6 p.m. Wednesday
MACON, Ga. – Mercer (8-9, 1-5 SoCon) will travel to Charleston, S.C. to conclude its current five-match road stretch with a Southern Conference contest against The Citadel on Wednesday. First serve will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer split with the Bulldogs last season, outlasting them 3-1 at home before falling 3-2 on the road. The Bears later faced The Citadel in the play-in game of the SoCon Tournament, winning 3-1 to move on to the first round.

SCOUTING THE CITADEL
Sharlissa De Jesus leads the Bulldogs, ranking second in SoCon in kills per set (3.93) and third in service aces (25). The Citadel, which was voted last in the conference preseason poll, has already taken down UNCG (3-1) and Chattanooga (3-0), both of which the Bears have lost to. The Bulldogs' third conference win came against Western Carolina, which Mercer also defeated. The Citadel is currently 2-0 at home.

- Mercer ranks higher than The Citadel in six of seven statistical categories including: hitting percentage (.191), opponent hitting percentage (.181), assists (11.38), kills (12.33), blocks (1.85) and digs (15.28). The Bulldogs ranks fourth in service aces (1.32) to Mercer's fifth place (1.30).
- Paige Alsten ranks fourth in the league in hitting percentage (.310) as well as kills per set (3.42).
- Alsten is currently three blocks away from reaching 300 total career blocks and jumping into the top five of Mercer volleyball history.
