Bears drop 5-2-1 event at Great Waters Golf Club
GREENSBORO, Ga. – Tyler Copp and Hayes Rule picked up individual victories despite the Mercer men's golf team falling, 5-2-1, to Michigan in a match play event Saturday at the Great Waters Golf Club at Lake Oconee.
Rule and Copp both picked up 2-1 victories to pace the Bears while Brennan Bogdanovich earned a tie with Michigan's Henry Spring. All eight individual matches came down to the final two holes of action as the Bears hung close with their Big Ten Conference foe.
Mercer will see the Wolverines again in March when the Bears host the Linger Longer Invitational (March 18-20) at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
Mercer vs. Michigan
"While we couldn't come out with a win against Michigan today, every one of our matches came down to the last two holes," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "Michigan is a top-60 program nationally and we took them down to the wire.
"Our guys realize we are close. The encouraging thing is that each individual match came down to the wire with Tyler [Copp] and Hayes [Rule] earning wins."
Up Next
Mercer will head to Hilton Head, S.C. for the Wexford Intercollegiate on Feb. 26-27.
