Women’s Tennis Claims 5-2 Victory Over Kennesaw State

MACON, Ga. –The Mercer women's tennis team topped Kennesaw State 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

The afternoon began with the Bears claiming an early 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles competition. On court No. 1, the duo of Celine Schepers and Grace Korta cruised to a 6-3 victory over Alexandra Mercado and Jessica Cantrell. The No. 2 pairing of Katie Sidor and Marie Mottet earned a hard-fought 6-4 win over Laura Hopton and Jada Tijani. Court No. 3 saw Christie Cesarini and Maeva Roquebert defeat Elle Baker and Cristina Perez-Martin in a thrilling tiebreak, 7-6 (3).

Singles play began with No. 1 Sidor dropping Perez-Martin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Mercer picked up another point as No. 2 Schepers took a tiebreak and then dominated the second set in a 7-6, 6-0, win over Mercado The Bears' No. 3 seeded Mottet fell 6-3, 6-2, to Kennedy Craig. Court No. 4 saw Korta best Hopton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The Owls' No. 5 Cantrell defeated Maeva Roquebert, 6-3, 6-3. Mercer's No. 6 Cesarini capped off the Bears' victory with a 6-4, 6-3, success over Baker.

With the win, Mercer improves to 2-2, while the Owls fall to 0-4. The Bears will continue their home-stand, facing Florida Gulf Coast this Friday, Feb. 9, beginning at 1 p.m.
