
Bears Fall to Florida State on Road

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Mercer women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Florida State on the road Saturday afternoon.

The afternoon began with the Bears falling behind early, as Florida State claimed the doubles competition. Play on court No. 3 finished first as the Seminoles' Gabrielle Goldin and Lucie Prochazkova were victorious over Maeva Roquebert and Christie Cesarini, 6-0. The No. 2 pairing of Katie Sidor and Marie Motttet put up a tough fight but were unable to overcome Carla Touly and Ariana Rahmanparast, 6-3. Action on court No. 1 was left unfinished as Florida State had already clinched the doubles point.

The Seminoles stretched to a 2-0 lead as No. 5 seeded Prochazkova topped Roquebert, 6-3, 6-0. On court No. 3 Mottet fell 6-2, 6-1, to Gabriella Castaneda. Florida State clinched the match at 4-0 with No. 6 Gabrielle Goldin's straight set victory over Cesarini, 6-1, 6-2. Matches on courts No. 1, 2 and 4 were left unfinished. The Bears No. 1 Sidor was up a set when play was left unfinished.

The Bears will return to the friendly confinements of the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center to begin a four-match home stand, beginning with Georgia Southwestern State on Feb. 17, beginning at 11 a.m.
