Women’s Tennis Completes Clean Sweep Over the Weekend

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team saw great success this weekend with 7-0 sweeps over Georgia Southwestern State and Berry College Saturday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The team was near perfect across the board over the day, not dropping a single set. The Bears' match that was scheduled for Sunday against UAB has been postponed due to inclement weather.

The Bears began the afternoon in style, sweeping the doubles competition over Georgia Southwestern State, only dropping one games over the three courts. Both No. 1 pairing of Celine Schepers and Grace Korta and the No. 3 duo of Katie Sidor and Christie Cesarini dominated their matches, winning 6-0. The Bears continued to control the courts in singles play, winning all matches in straight sets. Four players for Mercer only dropped one game in their victories (Sidor, Korta, Cesarini and Meva Roquebert). The Bears defeated Georgia Southwestern 7-0.

Once again the Bears only dropped one game in the doubles competition sweeping Berry College. In singles play, both Sidor and Cesarini won their matches in perfect style, 6-0, 6-0. As a team, the Bears only dropped five games across the six courts. Mercer conquered the courts, topping Berry College, 7-0.

The Bears will conclude their home stand as they host Jacksonville State on Wednesday, Feb. 28, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
