Mercer Unable to Overcome Eagles at Home

MACON, Ga. – Mercer was unable to maintain a two-goal halftime lead as it fell to Winthrop, 14-9, in nonconference action at Five Star Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kelly Hagerty scored a team-high three goals as Mercer dropped to 3-5 overall. Winthrop improved to 7-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kate Leone and Kelly Hagerty started the game with a spark, scoring the first two goals at 28:59 and 25:07. Winthrop retaliated, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. After back-and-forth goals for both teams, the Bears took an 8-6 advantage by scoring the last three goals – Erica Coyne, Kate Leone and Hagerty – before the half.

Despite the strong first half, the Eagles outscored the Bears 8-1 in the second half. Mercer's Lindsey Zeltwanger would be the only Bear to score at the 26:23 mark before Winthrop took control of the remainder of the game.

Audrey Robertson notched a career-high seven ground balls and tied her career-high of five caused turnovers while tallying a game-high four draw controls.
