
Bears Fall 4-1 to Furman in SoCon Semifinals

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Mercer Bears' men's tennis team saw their season come to an end as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Furman in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament, Friday afternoon at the Champions Club.
The Bears fell behind early as the Paladins claimed the doubles competition. On court No. 1, Cameron Green and Jake Munns defeated the Bears' top duo of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart, 6-3. Furman clinched the doubles point as their No. 3 pairing of Jake Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson topped Carver Arant and Fernando Guardia, 7-5. Mercer's No. 2 seeded Ruben Vanoppen and Nicolas Guillon were up 6-5 when the match was left unfinished.
Furman extended to a 2-0 lead as No. 1 Green bested Philp, 6-1, 6-0. Mercer fought back as No. 2 Stuart picked up a point for the Bears with a straight set, 6-2, 6-4, triumph over Munns. The Paladins' No. 4 slotted Singerman stretched Furman's lead once more as he downed Guardia, 6-1, 6-3. Furman clinched the match as No. 6 Bhangdia trumped Arant, 6-3, 7-5.
