Bears Continue Tournament Schedule at Morehead State

Mercer faces Wright State, Morehead State and Saint Francis
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team will continue its tournament schedule by traveling to Morehead, Ky. to compete in the Comfort Inn-Vitational. The Bear's first match will begin on Friday, Aug. 31 against Wright State at 1 p.m., followed by facing host, Morehead State at 7 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 1 where the Bears will challenge Saint Francis at 11:30 a.m.

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE
The Raiders are coming off a 2-1 result after competing in the West Virginia Invitational last weekend, where they defeated Georgia Southern (3-2) and upset West Virginia (3-1) while falling to Connecticut (3-2). Wright State is under the direction of a new coach in Allie Matters, spending the last seven seasons as the top assistant at Seton Hall. Teddie Sauer is the offensive threat for the Raiders, recording 37 kills and five aces. Alannah Lemming and Celia Powers both lead the squad with 20 total blocks each. Lainey Stephenson anchors the squad in assists with 83.

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE
After opening the 2018 season 3-0 during the Eagle Challenge over the weekend, Morehead State fell to Marshall, 3-2, on Tuesday for its first loss. Olivia Lohmeier leads the Eagles with 56 kills, after adding a career-high 19 against the Thundering Herd. Chandler Clark has recorded 166 assists so far, with Maddie Fella leading the way with 26 total blocks for the Eagles.

SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS
The Red Flash head into the weekend looking for their first win of the season after beginning the year 0-4 at the Eastern Illinois Tournament. Madi Tyus leads the team with 48 kills and 57 digs. Emily Pieper and Shannon Thomas anchor the squad in assists with 62 and 49, respectively.

- Mercer went 2-2 to start their 2018 campaign, defeating Lamar (3-1) and North Alabama (3-2), while falling to Arkansas-Little Rock (0-3) and Jacksonville State (1-3).
- The Bears top the Southern Conference in service aces, totaling 24 for the season so far. Roberta Todd is tied for third in the conference with five.
- Mercer leads the conference in total kills (171), paced by Todd (41) and Paige Alsten (40).
- Alexia Morey leads the SoCon in total blocks, recording 14 for the season. The Colorado native registered a season-high six blocks against North Alabama.
- Setters, Molly Hackett and Maddie Nunley have split time this season with Hackett ranking fifth in the conference in assists per set (7.2) and Nunley sitting in the eighth slot (6.2).
- Mercer tops the SoCon in total digs (188), with Emilee Wissmach pacing the Bears with 49 on the young season.
- Five newcomers saw action in the Jax State Invitational, combining for 97 kills, 73 assists, 30 blocks, 72 digs and 11 service aces.
