Women's Tennis Team Falls 7-0 to Top Ranked FSU in Season Opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer's women's tennis team opened the 2019 season Friday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to the No. 15th ranked Florida State Seminoles.
The Bears fell behind early, as the Seminoles swept the doubles competition to claim a 1-0 lead. Mercer's No. 1 pairing of Katie Sidor and Alara Hollyfield dropped a 6-0 decision to Emmanuelle Salas and Ana Oparenovic. The Seminoles clinched the early point as the No. 3 duo of Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia topped the Bears' Anna Sovic and Christie Cesarini, 6-1. Court No. 2 saw Mercer's Marie Mottet and Celine Schepers fall, 6-1, to Carla Touly and Petra Hule.
Mercer continued to fight but the Seminoles would prove to be too strong, claiming all of the singles action in straight sets. On court No. 1, the No. 39th nationally ranked Touly defeated Sidor, 6-0, 6-0. Mercer's No. 2 seeded Mottet fell 6-2, 6-1, to the No. 125th ranked Oparenovic. The Seminoles No. 3 Salas claimed a 6-0, 6-2, decision over Hollyfield. Court No. 4 saw Rhmanparast defeat Schepers, 6-2, 6-1. No. 5 Garcia bested the Bears' Maeva Roquebert, 6-1, 6-3. On court No. 6, Mikulski downed Sovic, 6-0, 6-1.
Mercer returns to the court next Saturday, Jan. 19 when the Bears travel to the Alabama to take on the No. 24th ranked Auburn Tigers Start time for the match is 3 p.m. (ET).
