Mercer Women’s Tennis Team Concludes Weekend Play in Alabama

Bears Defeat Alabama A&M Over The Weekend
AUBURN, Ala. – Mercer's women's tennis team played four matches over the weekend at Auburn, Ala., earning a 6-1 victory over Alabama A&M on Sunday.
In the win over Alabama A&M, the Bears' first victory of the season, Mercer came out strong winning the doubles competition. Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers defeated X. Duarte Ramirez and RidaKhalid 6-3, while Alara Hollyfield and MaevaRoquebert knocked off Alyssa Williams and Ayanna Rengiil 6-1.
Sidor won her singles match over Jasmine Boyd 6-0, 6-1; while Hollyfield defeated Beatriz Gutierrez 6-3, 6-4. Schepers bested Ramirez 6-0, 6-3; Roquebertblanked Khalid 6-0, 6-0; and Christie Cesarani defeated Nthabiseng Mashengo 6-0, 6-1.
The Bears dropped a pair of matches to 24th-ranked Auburn over the weekend, losing to the host school 7-0 on Saturday and 4-0 on Sunday. Also on Saturday, Mercer fell to Central Arkansas 4-1. In that match, Schepers defeated Marli Van Heerden 7-5, 6-2 at No.4 singles.
Mercer, now 1-4 on the season, will return to the state of Alabama later this week, when the Bears travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the nationally ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday, Jan. 26. Start time for the match is 11 a.m. (ET).
