Roquebert Picks Up Big Win as Bears Fall to Alabama Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – Maeva Roquebert earns big singles win as Bears fall 6-1 at Alabama Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide gained an early edge, claiming the doubles competition. Mercer's No. 3 pairing of Maeva Roquebert and Alara Hollyfield were defeated, 6-2, by Ann Selim and Kimberley Gintrand. Alabama clinched the doubles point with Moka Ito and Jacqueline Pelletier topping Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers, 6-3. Action on court No. 2 was left unfinished.
Alabama continued to extend its lead, winning the first three singles competitions to clinch the match. On court No. 5, Mercer's Anna Sovic fell, 6-2, 6-1, to Fabian. The Bears' No. 6 seeded, Christie Cesarini saw a, 6-0, 6-2, defeat at the hands of Gintrand. Alabama clinched the match as No. 1 seeded Ito bested Sidor, 6-4, 6-1. Mercer's No. 4 Roquebert claimed the sole point of the day for the Bears with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-2, victory over Selim. Court No. 3 saw Hollyfield fall, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7), to Alba Cortina Pou. Action wrapped up as No. 2 Pelletier topped Schepers, 6-4, 7-6.
The Bears will return to action, traveling to face in-state rival Georgia Southern next Thursday, Jan. 31. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
