D1Baseball Tabs Yeager as SoCon Preseason Player of the Year

MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore shortstop RJ Yeager was named the Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year by D1Baseball, which released its 2019 SoCon Preview on Thursday.

Yeager, who was named the 2018 SoCon Coaches' Freshman of the Year, started all 60 games last season and slashed .324/.410/.458 while helping the Bears win 38 games and reach the SoCon Championship title game.

The Lynn Haven, Fla., native will anchor the middle of Mercer's defense this spring. Mercer returns four position starters, including Yeager, from last year's team. The Bears open preseason practice Friday in anticipation of their season-opening home series against Evansville on Feb. 15-17.

Season tickets for the 2019 baseball season are on sale now and can be purchased online at tickets.mercer.edu. The Bears' 32-game home schedule includes SoCon series with UNCG, Western Carolina, ETSU and Samford as well as in-state contests against Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Savannah State.
