CARROLLTON, Ga. – As a team, the Mercer Bears (21-4, 2-1 SoCon) blasted three home runs and mashed four doubles en route to a 13-9 win on Tuesday night at Cole Field over West Georgia (6-19, 3-3 ASUN).

Decisive Plays:

Stop me if you have heard this before… Brant Baughcum kick-started the scoring early with a two-run home run (5) in the first inning. In the home half of the opening frame, UWG responded with an RBI single. Logan Shepherd plated the Bears' third run of the game in the top of the second before Gabe Young hit a three-run home run to give the Wolves' a second-inning lead. Mercer's offense exploded for a five spot in the third inning headlined by an Eli Stephens two-run homer (6) and an RBI double (8) by Shepherd. The score remained 8-4 until the top of the fifth when Dylan LaPointe blasted his fourth home run to deep center. West Georgia answered with back-to-back RBI doubles to bring the contest within three. Patrick McCullough decreased the Wolves' deficit even more with a solo home run in the sixth. LaPointe responded in the eighth inning with an RBI double and Michael Graziano tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly the next at-bat. Shepherd ripped his second RBI double of the day and Chris Katz capped off the Bears' scoring with a sacrifice fly of his own later in the frame. David Bell plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth before Collin Ewaldsen struck out the next batter he faced to shut down any rally attempts.
