Mercer opens home conference play against Samford

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears volleyball team will return to Hawkins Arena for the first time since Aug. 31 to continue conference play against Samford on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer and Samford have met 38 times in program history with Samford leading the series. The last time the two teams met was the 2018 season with Mercer taking the match in five sets.

NOTABLES

Sophomore Annie Karle leads the team in points (199.5), kills (163), service aces (28), and digs (149).
Freshman Jaida Howell has recorded a .373 hitting percentage, second in the Southern Conference.
Roberta Todd averages 2.94 kills per set, the highest on the Mercer squad.
Mercer ranks in the top three in two SoCon leader boards; second in opponent hitting percentage and third in hitting percentage.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Samford is coming off a 3-1 win at The Citadel on Saturday. They are led by head coach Keylor Chan who enters his fourth full season with the Bulldogs. Samford welcomes back 10 players including sophomore Lauren Deaton who leads the team in kills this year. Samford ended their 2018 season losing to No. 17 ranked USC in the NCAA Tournament.
