
Bears Come up Short at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  The Mercer Bears volleyball team went 1-3 (21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 18-25) Saturday night against UNCG in Greensboro, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (21-25) | Mercer started behind in the first set. Kills by Jaida Howell and Alexia Morey brought the Bears in the lead 8-7. The Bears stayed strong and took a 3-point lead 10-7. UNCG made a come back 11-12. Mercer managed to tie it up again 13-13 but fell to UNCG 21-25.

Set Two (25-22) | The Bears started off the second set fighting hard. A kill by Alexia Morey put the score at 7-3. Mercer continued the lead thoughout the set with kills by Jaida Howell, Malia Randolph, Annie Karle, Alexia Morey, and Brittany Major. The Bears take the set with a score of 25-22.

Set Three (19-25) | Mercer started set three fighting hard but fell behind. UNCG took a three-point lead. Kills by Annie Karle and Brittany Major tied the score 11-11. UNCG took the lead again. Mercer continued to fight hard but lost set three to UNCG with a score of 19-25.

Set Four (18-25) | Mercer started the fourth set fighting hard. A kill by Jaida Howell put the Bears in a four-point lead. The Bears fell behind but a kill from Brittany Major tied them back up 8-8. Mercer fell behind again. They fought hard but fell to UNCG 18-25.

The Bears will be back a home next Friday, October 25 when they take on Wofford at 7 p.m. in Hawkins Arena.

- Freshman Jaida Howell continues to lead the SoCon in hitting percentage.
- Junior Megan Smith is ranked top ten in the Southern Conference in digs, averaging 3.28 digs per set.
- Nya Steele and Malia Randolph are on the list for assists in the SoCon, Steele with 7.96 per set and Randolph with 7.24 per set.
- Jaida Howell leads the team in blocks, recording 69.0 on the season.
