Women’s Soccer Falls to Western Carolina, 4-1

Ally Fordham scored the lone goal for Mercer
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Mercer women's soccer team was defeated 4-1 by Western Carolina Sunday night at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The loss for the Bears ended a four-match win streak. Ally Fordham scored the Bears lone goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the third minute of the contest, Western Carolina stole a pass and went down the field. Emily Zipay sent a pass to Julia Winter who scored putting the Catamounts ahead, 1-0. After a corner kick by the Bears, the Catamounts countered and Zipay scored on an assist by Natalia Threatt putting WCU ahead 2-0.

Late in the first half, Western Carolina added its third goal of the game. Jordan Dawsey found Rea Syska for the third goal of the game and taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
After a Catamount foul, the Brie Pavol took the free kick. She sent the ball into the box and Ally Fordham headed the ball in for the Bears first goal of the game. The Bears goal came in the 68th minute of the match. The goal by Fordham trimmed the WCU lead down to two, 3-1. Â Four minutes later, Western Carolina grew its lead back to three, when Renee Saneholtz scored putting the Catamounts ahead 4-1.

The Bears return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when they host Wofford in SoCon action. Kickoff from Betts Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Friday is also senior night for the Bears.
