
Women’s Soccer Tops Wofford, 2-0, on Senior Day

The Bears honored its three seniors before the start of the match
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's soccer team tied the school record for wins with 14 following a 2-0 victory over Wofford on Senior Day. The Bears honored its three senior class members before the start of the game.

With the win against Wofford, the Bears secured a top four seed in the SoCon Tournament and will host a Quarterfinals matchup on Nov. 3rd at Betts Stadium. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears (14-3, 6-2 SoCon), outshot the Terriers (5-10, 2-6 SoCon) 10-1 in the first half but could not find the back of the net and the match went scoreless into halftime.

In the first six minutes of the second half, Mercer scored the first goal of the contest. Nicole Icen, who leads the Bears in scoring, sent a cross into the box and Ciara Whitely finished the play for a goal. This was Whitely's first goal since Aug. 22. Less than six minutes later, Elizabeth Hargis found Abigail Zoeller for a goal, putting the Bears ahead, 2-0. Following the second goal, the Terriers put two shots on goal but Jordyn Ebert recorded the saves. The Bears defeated the Terriers 2-0 for its seventh shutout of the season.

The Bears return to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they host Furman in the 2019 regular season finale. Â The SoCon matchup will start at 2 p.m. from Betts Stadium.
