Mercer Names Alexis Ward Special Events and Operations Coordinator

MACON, GA. – Mercer Senior Associate Athletics Director Brian Gerrity announced the hiring of Alexis Ward as the Special Events and Operations Coordinator for the Mercer Athletic Foundation (MAF) on Monday.

"I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity to work with the Mercer Athletic Foundation," Ward said. "I have enjoyed my past few months in Macon, and I am even more excited to see it from the perspective of a Mercer Bear."

Ward joins the staff after two years with Athletes in Action at Georgia Southern University. Athletes in Action is an international sports organization focused on equipping athletes, coaches and sport-minded individuals to grow their relationship with Jesus, serving in more than 60 countries and on over 200 college campuses. Ward led the ministry for Georgia Southern's female student-athletes in fundraising, planning/organizing special events and leading foreign mission trips.

"We are excited to welcome Alexis to Mercer," Gerrity said. "She has a fantastic personality and her background as a Division I student-athlete will help her in this position. I look forward to introducing her to our donor base and watching her grow within this role."

Ward lettered four years as a women's basketball student-athlete at Georgia Southern, where she left with the school's all-time games started record with 109. While with the Eagles, Ward ranked near the top of several career statistical categories including eighth in three-pointers made, fifth in three-pointers attempted and tied for 12th with 229 assists. She graduated from Georgia Southern in 2016 with a B.S. in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.Â
Formerly Alexis Sams, she married current Mercer Director of Strength & Conditioning Jeff Ward in the summer of 2017.Â
