Bears face WCU for second time this season in SoCon Quarterfinals

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer team opens up Southern Conference Tournament play on Sunday, Nov. 3 when they host Western Carolina in the Quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from Betts Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer and Western Carolina are even in the series history. Mercer is 4-4 all-time against WCU. During the 2019 season, Mercer was defeated, 4-1, by Western Carolina.

NOTABLES

With the win over Furman, Head Coach Tony Economopoulos won his 100^th career match as a head coach.
With the win over Furman last Sunday, the Bears finished 7-2 in the SoCon. They finished tied for third in the conference. Mercer was the only SoCon team to defeat both Samford and Furman this season.
This season the Bears have won 15 games. Mercer is one of nine teams to win 15 or more games this season. Other teams to accomplish this feat are No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 North Carolina, and No. 4 BYU.

This season, junior Jordyn Ebert has recorded 89 saves, the most in the SoCon. The 89 saves is three away from tying a career-high. She has 244 career saves, which is tied for fourth most in Mercer history.
Jordyn Ebert has recorded 14 shutouts in her career at Mercer. The 13 career shutouts are tied for third most in program history.
Mercer is averaging 7.2 corner kicks per match this season, the tops in the SoCon. The 7.2 corner kicks per game ranks 11^th in the nation. Against ETSU this season, the Bears attempted 15 corner kicks in the match.
Freshman Nicole Icen has tallied a team-high 22 points. The 23 points it tied for the most in the SoCon. Icen is four points away from tying for 10^th on for points in a single season for Mercer.
Abigail Zoeller leads the Bears and the SoCon in assists. Zoeller has ten assists this season. For her career at Mercer, Zoeller has 18 assists, which is tied for fifth all-time. She is three assists away from tying with Nancy Fallin for most assists in a career at Mercer.
Mercer's 36 shots in the Gardner-Webb match are the most by the Bears since recording 37 against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31, 2014.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
The Catamounts enter the SoCon Quarterfinals with a record of 11-7. They finished fifth in the SoCon this season. In the last game, WCU defeated VMI, 1-0, to close out the 2019 regular season. WCU has scored 25 goals on the season. Regan Ward and Julia Winter lead the team with four goals each. Winter also leads the team with four assists. In goal, Melody Mezzina leads the team with 1089 minutes. As a team, the Catamounts are allowing 1.60 goals per game. They recorded six shutouts on the season.
