Mercer to host UCONN in home opener
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team will look to get back on the winning track hosting a pair of non-conference opponents at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center this weekend. The Bears will first face UCONN on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. before taking on Alabama State on Sunday, Feb. 3. at 11 a.m.

Scouting the Huskies
UCONN enters the weekend holding a 3-1 overall mark. The Huskies will compete with Georgia Southern on Friday before turning focus towards the Bears. After opening the 2019 campaign with a 3-0 start, the Huskies most recently fell at Boston College, 7-0. UCONN's No. 2 singles player, J. Michael Holtmann has posted a 3-1 record to start the season. The Huskies are led by head coach Reinaldo Valor who is serving in his first season at the helm.
Scouting the Hornets
Alabama State enters the match holding a 1-3 record, most recently falling to Samford, 5-2. The Hornets finished the 2018 season with a 12-9 overall record going undefeated in SWAC play posting a 6-0 conference mark. The Hornets are the defending SWAC champions and fell to Florida State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Mercer last met Alabama State on Jan. 26, 2018, defeating the Hornets, 5-2, on the road. The Hornets are led by head coach Anuk Christiansz.

The men's team will hit the road for a six-match road swing, beginning with a competition at North Florida next Friday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m.
