Mercer two shots off lead and Schorr in striking distance individually
PALM CITY, Fla. – The Mercer men's golf team sits two strokes off the lead after shooting another impressive 4-under-par 284 in the second round of the UNCG-hosted Martin Downs Collegiate at Osprey Creek on Monday.

Mercer, which entered the second round in first place, now trails Southern Conference rival UNCG by two strokes after the Spartans shot a tournament-low 273 (-15) on Monday. Senior Stanton Schorr carded a 5-under-par 67 in the second round and is in sole possession of third place individually.

"Another solid day was led by Stanton Schorr today, who continues to play impressive golf for us," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "Our 4-under-par team score was great, we just happened to run into a team [UNCG] that was very hot, so hats off to them.

"We're motivated to play with the Spartans in Tuesday's final round. With two impressive days under our belts, our guys are confident that they can win this tournament on Tuesday."

Defending SoCon champion UNCG lit up the course on Monday with an eye-catching 273 (-15) to jump ahead of the Bears by two strokes. Mercer's second-round performance was not to be ignored; the Bears shot 284 for the second straight day and are one of three teams under par through 36 holes played.

Mercer on Individual Leaderboard
Two Bears – Schorr and Lino Galdin – shot 5-under-par 67 for the team on Tuesday. Galdin, who is playing as an individual, jumped 32 spots for a tie for 13th, while Schorr is four strokes off the clubhouse leader with 18 holes to play. All seven Bears are ranked inside the top 25 of the 92-man tournament.
