Women's Tennis Squad Trumps Troy, 4-3

TROY, Ala. – The Mercer women's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 4-3 victory at Troy Saturday afternoon.
The Bears fell behind early, with the Trojans claiming the doubles competition. Mercer took court No. 3 with Maeva Roquebert and Alara Hollyfield blanking Estevan and Casas Blas, 6-0. Troy went on to win on court No. 1 (6-3) and No. 2 (6-3) to clinch the doubles point.
Mercer evened the odds at 1-1, with No. 4 Roquebert topping Estevan, 6-4, 6-1. The Bears took the lead as No. 3 Celine Schepers defeated Guo, 6-2, 6-4. The Trojans would win on court No. 5, as Sovic fell to Hsieh, 6-3, 6-0. No. 2 Hollyfield downed Pei, 6-2, 6-2. Troy forced the match to go the distance with No. 6 Casas Blas defeating Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-3. Mercer's top seeded Katie Sidor clinched the match for the Bears with a thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, triumph over Minaljevic.

The Bears will return to LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center to play host to the UAB Blazers on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
