
Sidor Helps Lift Mercer to Thrilling 4-3 Victory Over UAB

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team rallied back to claim a 4-3 victory over the UAB Blazers, Wednesday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
The Blazers jumped out to an early lead, winning the doubles competition. The Bears' No. 1 pairing of Katie Sidor and Lucia Gutierrez dropped a 6-3 decision to Marlene Herrmann and Alex Shchipakina. UAB clinched the doubles point as its No. 2 duo of Dominika Hrabalova and Megan Bertrands defeated Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert, 7-6.
Mercer took singles courts No. 5 and 6 by walkover. The Bears' No. 4 slotted Roquebert topped Hecking in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to give Mercer a 3-1 lead. The Blazers would not go down without a fight however, taking courts No. 2 and 3. With the match on the line, Mercer's No. 1 Sidor fought back from a set down, to earn a, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, triumph over UAB's Herrmann.

The women's team will return to action on Thursday, March 7, as the Bears travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to compete with the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. Play is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (ET)
