
Women's Tennis Earns Thrilling 4-3 Triumph Over Gamecocks

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team earned a hard-fought, 4-3, victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Thursday afternoon at the JSU Tennis Complex.
Mercer gained an early edge, winning the doubles competition. Play began with the No. 3 duo of Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert topping Alessia Locati and Cristina Moll Alles, 6-3. The Bears clinched the doubles point with the No. 2 pairing of Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet defeating Hamilton and Elena Tendero.
Singles action began with No. 2 Hollyfield downing Lorati, 6-0, 6-2. The Gamecocks picked up a point on court No. 1 with Sidor falling to Hamilton, 6-3, 6-3. The Bears backed up, inching closer to victory, with No. 4 Mottet besting Tendero, 6-2, 6-3. Jacksonville earned another point with No. 6 Gutierrez falling, 6-2, 7-6, to Moll Alles. Jacksonville State tied the match at 3-3 with No. 3 Roquebert dropping a, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6, decision to Buechner. With the match on the line, the Bears' No. 5 Celine Schepers rallied back to claim a, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, match-clinching victory over Conejero.

Mercer will return to the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center for a three-match home stand, beginning with opening Southern Conference play against Western Carolina on Saturday, March 9. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
