The Bears are 14-4 all-time against Furman, including 5-2 when playing at home. The Bears have won nine consecutive games against the Paladins. Mercer bested the Paladins by 15 points in Greenville at the start of this month as Amanda Thompson finished with 19 points and 11 boards. Last year in Greenville, KeKe Calloway went off for 40 points and an NCAA record-tying 12 threes.
Â
SCOUTING FURMAN
Furman enters Thursday's game at 16-11 overall and 8-4 in SoCon play. The Paladins are in second place in the league standings despite being unable to catch Mercer (12-0). The Paladins suffered in nine-point loss at Wofford last Saturday but reeled off four consecutive wins against Western Carolina, UNCG, Chattanooga and ETSU in the previous four contests. Le'Jzae Davidson and Celena Taborn are averaging double figure in scoring to lead Furman.
Â
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
Mercer clinched the 2018-19 Southern Conference regular season title with a pair of road wins at ETSU and Chattanooga last week. The Bears have won at least a share of four consecutive SoCon regular season titles dating back to the 2015-16 campaign. The latter half of those four titles have been powered by 32 consecutive SoCon regular season victories, a streak that started at the end of the 2016-17 season. The Bears are 50-4 in SoCon play since the start of the 2015-16 season.
Â
CEMENTING THEIR LEGACY
Mercer's five-woman senior class – KeKe Calloway, Linnea Rosendal, Rachel Selph, Amanda Thompson and Ally Welch – is seeking its 100th career victory. The five Bears are 99-26 overall since the start of the 2015-16 season, their freshman year at Mercer. This senior class is the winningest four-year class in program history. They have been members of each of Mercer's four SoCon regular season title teams.
Â
TITUS HITTING HER STRIDE
The lone non-senior in Mercer's starting lineup has continued to rise to the occasion late in the season. Sophomore Shannon Titus is one of the Bears' key scoring threats since the start of SoCon play as she has averaged 15.8 points per game on 50.6 percent shooting from the field in league games. Titus has scored in double figures in 10 of 12 SoCon games this season, including a career-high 27 points on 12-of-21 shooting last Thursday at ETSU as she helped Mercer clinch at least a share of the SoCon regular season title. Titus scored all eight of Mercer's points in the overtime period to defeat ETSU that night.
