
Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at North Florida Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer women's tennis team fell to North Florida, 5-2, at the North Florida Tennis Complex Friday afternoon.
The Bears fell behind early, with the Ospreys sweeping the doubles competition. On court No. 1, Mercer's top pairing of Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers fell to Rafaela Gomez and Constanze Gorches, 6-4. North Florida's No. 3 duo of Lucia Montano and Florencia Rossi beat Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert, 6-2. The Ospreys completed the sweep as their No. 2 slotted Valentina Mariotto and Ana Paula Melilo topped Lucia Gutierrez and Anna Sovic, 6-3.
The Ospreys took the first four singles competitions to clinch the match. On court No. 2, Montano downed Schepers, 6-1, 6-0. Court No. 6 saw Rossi, defeat Christie Cesarini, 6-1, 6-2. North Florida's No. 4 Melilo clinched the match with a, 6-2, 6-3, victory over Roquebert. North Florida claimed court No. 5 with Lodzki coming out on top over Sovic, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Mercer fought back with No. 3 Hollyfield besting Mariotto, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8). The afternoon wrapped up with the Bears' No. 1 slotted Sidor earning a, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6), triumph over Gomez.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return to action traveling to Troy, Ala. to face the Troy Trojans next Saturday, Feb. 16. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
