Bears Close Out Regular Season at FGCU

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer beach volleyball team (7-4, 2-4 ASUN) will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face Florida Gulf Coast in a pair of ASUN Conference matches on Friday, April 12.

The two matches will start at 3 and 5 p.m. and will close out the Bears' regular season schedule. Mercer is currently battling for an at-large bid to the ASUN Tournament, held in Deland, Fla. on April 18-20.

The Bears enter the weekend in third place in the ASUN Conference North Division standings, trailing No. 10 Stetson (21-8, 6-0) and North Florida (17-12, 4-2). Winners of the North and South Divisions get automatic bids to the tournament and are joined by four at-large participants.

With two wins on Friday, Mercer can reach a .500 conference record.
Mercer fell to nationally-ranked No. 10 Stetson on Wednesday, falling 5-0 in both matches.
The Bears went 2-2 in ASUN Conference play last weekend, earning two wins over Jacksonville while falling twice to North Florida at Bear Beach.
Kacy Ogden and Elli Merchant were Mercer's only pairing to beat North Florida as they notched a 21-15, 21-19 straight-sets win in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Ospreys.
Mercer only dropped one set to Jacksonville over the weekend.
FGCU leads the head-to-head series with Mercer, 10-7. The two teams most recently faced off last season when the Eagles walked away with two 4-1 wins during the regular season before defeating the Bears, 3-2, in the ASUN Tournament.

SCOUTING FGCU
Florida Gulf Coast will play six ASUN matches over the next three days against North Florida (Thursday), Mercer (Friday) and Jacksonville (Saturday). The Eagles participated in the Eckerd College's Battle on the Bay (2-2), Georgia State's Day of Duals (0-2) and UNCW's Dig & Dive Beach Bash (3-1) earlier this season. Snowy Burnam and Kayla Whetstone leads the team with an overall 14-3 record.
