Beach Bears Trip To Jacksonville For UNF Duuuval Duals

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Beach Volleyball team will close out a season-opening 12-game stretch away from home this weekend when the Bears trip to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida-hosted Duuuval Duals.

The Bears (2-6) are scheduled for a quartet of matchups over the 2-day event, beginning with a Friday morning contest against 6-2 Eastern Kentucky. Mercer will face #17 North Florida (5-3) to close out Friday action in northeast Florida, and will close out its portion of tournament play on Saturday against Jacksonville (3-2) and Florida International (3-2).

The Orange & Black went 1-3 last weekend at the Stetson Spring Fling in DeLand, Fla. Kristi Talocka picked up a trio of wins on Court No. 2, including two victories alongside fellow sophomore partner Grace Rathburn.

The Bears toughed out a 3-2 win over the College of Charleston on Friday to open the round-robin tournament at Cooper Beach Volleyball COmplex, but fell on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision to Jacksonville in Saturday's contest. Mercer also dropped matchups with Eckerd and the host Hatters during their stay in DeLand.

Following this weekend's trip to Jacksonville, the Bears will return to Macon to host the Bears Beach Bash at Bear Beach for their first home matches of the season. The tournament will take place from Friday, March 13 to Saturday, March 14.
