Women’s Tennis to Clash with Wofford in SoCon Tournament

Bears to play in opening round of SoCon Championship on Thursday
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team will open the 2019 Southern Conference Championship on Thursday by facing No. 3-seeded Wofford at 10:30 a.m. at the John Drew Tennis Center.

The Bears enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed with a 13-12 overall record and 2-5 mark in SoCon play during the regular season. Mercer is led by senior Katie Sidor, who earned All-SoCon Singles First Team honors on Wednesday for the second consecutive year. Sidor went 17-5 (6-1 SoCon) during the regular season.

Mercer plays host to the SoCon Women's and Men's Championship this week. All matches will be played at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center, starting with the quarterfinal round on Thursday. The semifinal round will be played Friday, followed by a pair of championship title matches on Saturday.

The Terriers head into Thursday's match with a 12-7 overall record and 4-3 SoCon mark. Jenna Vroman, who owns a 14-3 overall record, leads Wofford in singles play. Vroman and Cassidy Hicks lead the Terrier's doubles play with a 14-2 record, dropping only one conference match this season. Thursday's match between Mercer and Wofford marks their 11th all-time meeting. Mercer trails, 8-2, in the series, most recently falling to the Terriers, 4-3, on April 5 at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon.
