Bears Fall in Season Finale to Jacksonville

Mercer defeated by visiting Dolphins, 20-12
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Jacksonville, 20-12, in Southern Conference play at Five Star Stadium on Saturday.

The season-ending defeat came on Senior Day, as Mercer recognized Kiel Brennan, Mikey Ewing, Hank Morgan and Jake Sadd prior to the match. Mercer fell to 1-12 overall (1-6 SoCon) while Jacksonville moved to 6-8 and 5-2 in league play.

Jake Priester's unassisted goal at the 13:52 mark of the first quarter gave Mercer a one-goal advantage. After a man-up goal from John Tarver put Mercer ahead, 3-1, Jacksonville scored five of the final six goals in the first frame to take a 6-4 lead.

The Dolphins extended their lead over the second and third quarters, outscoring Mercer, 9-4, over 30 minutes of play. Ashton Wood, Priester, Sean Goldsmith and John McCormack all tallied goals during the time frame.

Mercer made a fourth-quarter push with four goals, but was unable to come any closer than a six-goal deficit to the Dolphins during the final 15 minutes of action.

» Jake Priester led the Bears with three goals. Pascal Coombs and John Tarver both followed Priester with two goals off three shots each.
» Will McCarty and Nick Rockefeller grabbed the only two Bear assists of the day.
