Men’s Lacrosse Adds Tyler Steele As Graduate Assistant

MACON – Mercer men's lacrosse head coach James Chakey put the finishing touches on his first-year coaching staff on Sunday evening with the addition of former Hampden-Sydney standout Tyler Steele as a graduate assistant.
While building a reputation as one of the premier defensive players in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Steele played in 68 games (55 starts) across his career with the Tigers and logged 166 ground balls and 63 caused turnovers, while also registering 11 points on four goals and seven assists. A three-year starter and two-time team captain, he also raked in a trio of All-ODAC honors as well.
Steele predicated his collegiate career with an outstanding career at Pinecrest High School in Pinehurst, N.C., where he was a three-year captain, as well as a two-time all-region and all-conference pick. He was also named conference defensive player of the year as a senior.
The close defender collected multiple ODAC All-Academic Team accolades on the way to earning his bachelor's degree in economics and business from Hampden-Sydney in 2026. His father, Brian, played golf for the United States Military Academy (Army), while his sister, Isabella, starred on the lacrosse field for Meredith College.
