MACON – Athletics department officials at Mercer announced Friday morning that Ryan Danehy has resigned as men's lacrosse head coach to accept a position as offensive coordinator at Ohio State.
Â
"Ryan led our program to impeccable heights over the last four years, including a historical 2026 season that culminated with a berth into the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for just the second time in 11 years," said Director of Athletics Jim Cole. "We are incredibly grateful for his dedication and commitment to our program and wish him nothing but the very best in his new role at Ohio State."
Â
Boasting more than 19 years of coaching experience on the collegiate, professional and international levels, Danehy mentored three All-ASUN and a quartet of ASUN All-Freshman honorees over the last four seasons in Macon, while the program also accumulated eight Academic All-Sun selections as well. The Bears captured each of their first three games of the 2026 campaign on the way to securing their second ASUN Tournament berth under Danehy's watch.
Â
"These last four years have given me memories that I would hold close for the rest of my life," Danehy said. "I want to express my sincerest gratitude for all of the support that has been given to this program and myself since I arrived on campus in 2022. Mercer will forever have a special place in my heart."
Â
A national search for the program's new leader will begin immediately.
