Bears defeat Delaware State, 23-2, to win women’s lacrosse conference title

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team won a share of the 2019 Southern Conference regular season title with a 23-2 victory over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
Mercer (8-9, 4-1 SoCon) won its fourth league match and earned a share of the regular season title with Furman and Detroit Mercy, both of which defeated Wofford and Central Michigan, respectively, on Saturday. It is the Bears' first women's lacrosse regular season title.
The Bears jumped ahead early and never looked back, taking down the visiting Hornets (1-11, 0-5 SoCon) by 19 goals, their largest margin of victory this season. Mercer led, 7-0, before Delaware State scored its first goal of the contest. A running clock started with 16:31 remaining in the first half after Mercer stretched its lead to 10 goals (11-1).
Hailey Rhatigan led the way with eight points on two goals and six assists. Five other Bears tallied at least three points and 16 different players scored at least once. Dylan Malamala logged all 60 minutes between the pipes, recording one save.
Prior to the match, Mercer honored its four seniors – Kendall Garrett, Kelly Hagerty, Malamala and Audrey Robertson.
