Tanner Hall tosses six scoreless frames
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Mercer plated seven runs in the first inning and ran away with a series-clinching 10-0 win over The Citadel on Sunday afternoon at Joe C. Riley Park.
Â
The Bears (15-17, 4-5 SoCon) needed eight innings to win the run-rule shortened game; the rule was enforced due to it being a travel day. Tanner Hall tossed six scoreless innings and earned his fourth win of the year while fanning four batters.
Â
Mercer's seven first-inning runs came on eight hits, including a two-run home run by Angelo DiSpigna and RBI double by Collin Price in consecutive at bats. Eleven batters went to bat in the inning as Mercer knocked out Bulldog starting pitcher Dylan Spence.
Â
Kyle Dockus (4-for-4) was one of four Bears with multiple hits. The redshirt junior reached base in all five plate appearances and added three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases. Hall was relieved by Scott Smith, who limited the Bulldogs to two hits over the final two innings.
