Mercer Heads to New Orleans for Invitational

Bears will play Southern, New Orleans, and Tennessee State
MACON, Ga.  – The Mercer Volleyball team will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana for the New Orleans Invitational this Friday and Saturday.Â

Mercer will battle against Southern Friday at 1 p.m. Late they will play host New Orleans Friday night at 7 p.m. The Bears will close out the tournament against Tennessee State Saturday at 12 p.m.

Southern is coming off a 0-3 loss against UT Arlington at the 2019 Maverick Classic. The Jags went 14-16 in the 2018 season. Vanessa Jacobs returns for her third season as head coach along with 11 players from last season. Southern welcomes one new player, Joilyn Azore, a transfer from Houston, Texas.

New Orleans is coming off a 1-3 loss against Tulane on Tuesday at home. The Privateers went 12-19, 6-10 in their conference, in the 2018 season. They are led by head coach Millicent Van Norden, who enters her fifth season with New Orleans. The Privateers lead the series against the Bears 3-1. The last time the met was back in 2008, the Privateers took the match 3-0.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers are led by head coach Donika Sutton, who enters her third season with Tennessee State. They are coming off a 0-3 loss against Evansville Tuesday night. Tennessee State welcomes seven new freshman faces to the squad. Senior, Julia Pierson leads the Tigers with 52 kills, followed behind junior Aniya Williams with 51.
