
Bears Sweep Day One of Skyhawk Invitational

MARTIN, Tenn.  –  The Mercer Bears ended the day with a pair of wins against Little Rock and UT Martin at the Skyhawk Invitational Friday.

The Bears went 3-1 against Little Rock (23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19) and went 3-0 against UT Martin (25-16, 25-23, 25-23)

MERCER VS LITTLE ROCK
Set One (23-25) | The Orange and Black started the first set going on a 7-2 run behind kills from Annie Karle, Alexia Morey, Brittany Major, and Roberta Todd. The Trojans fought their way back and tied the set at 12. From there, it was a battle, but the Trojans didn't let up and took the first set.
Set Two (25-23) | The second set was another battle until the end with the Bears coming out on top. Brittany Major and Roberta Todd led Mercer in scoring, Major with five points, Todd with four. The set ended on a Little Rock service error.

Set Three (25-17) | Mercer and Little Rock were back-and-forth at the start of the set but the Bears went on a 5-0 streak to end the set. Freshman Jaida Howell started the run with a kill from Roberta Todd.

Set Four (25-19) | Annie Karle opened the fourth set with a kill and the Bears never let up. Mercer went on a 14-6 run led by Jaida Howell. Little Rock fought back but Roberta Todd and Jaida Howell ended the set and match on back-to-back kills.

MERCER VS UT MARTIN
Set One (25-16) | The first set was a back and forth battle between the Bears and Skyhawks. Jaida Howell had back to back to back kills to give Mercer a five point lead. Annie Karle ended the set with a kill from Emilee Wissmach.

Set Two (25-23) | The Orange and Black went down early in the second set with UT Martin going on an 11-3 run. The Bears retaliated with an 8-2 run with two service aces from freshman Lexi Uhrhan and kills from Alexia Morey and Brittany Major. It was a battle until the end but the Bears claimed the last three points with two kills and a Skyhawk error.

Set Three (25-23) | Roberta Todd recorded six kills in the last set to put the Bears over the Skyhawks to sweep the match. The Bears led the set with only four ties. Brittany Major ended it with back-to-back kills from Malia Randolph and Megan Smith.

UP NEXT
Mercer will battle against Evansville tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT) to close out their last invitational before the start of conference play.
