
Mercer Comes up Short Against Evansville

MARTIN, Tenn.  –  The Mercer Bears ended the Skyhawk Invitational losing against Evansville 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Bears went 1-3 against Evansville (25-17, 14-25, 27-29, 22-25) in their last match at the Skyhawk Invitational. Â

MERCER VS EVANSVILLE
Set One (25-17) | Roberta Todd opened the Bears scoring with a kill from Annie Karle. The Purple Aces tried to keep up but Mercer stayed strong and kept the difference. Mercer took the set on a ball handling error by Evansville.

Set Two (14-25) | The Bears fell behind early in the second set and tried to make a comeback. Mercer tied it up at 10 but the Purple Aces went on a run and ended the set 25-14.

Set Three (27-29) | It was a back and forth battle between Mercer and Evansville that had a combined score of 58 points. The third set had 15 ties and 2 lead changes. Jaida Howell recorded 7 kills but couldn't help the Bears beat the Purple Aces.

Set Four (22-25) | Mercer struck first to open the last set with a kill by Roberta Todd and it was another back and forth battle from there. The set included 10 ties and 3 lead changes. The Bears started to make a 3-0 run but Evansville scored two to secure the match.

NOTABLES
- Juniors Roberta Todd and Malia Randolph were named to the All-Tournament Team-Todd recorded 14 kills, 19 digs, and 2 blocks while Randolph recorded six kills and 44 assists.
- Alexia Morey recorded 10 kills during the tournament, bringing her season total to 80.
- Freshman Jaida Howell continues to lead the Southern conference in hitting percentage with .398%.
- Mercer is leading the SoCon in service aces and is ranked third in hitting percentage.
