The Bears eight-game win streak was snapped Sunday at UNCG
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time since Aug. 25, the Mercer women's soccer team was defeated. On Sunday afternoon, UNCG defeated Mercer, 2-0, snapping the Bears eight game-winning streak. The win streak was the second-longest in the nation.
Mercer was outshot 22-14 in the match. With the loss, Mercer falls to 9-2-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in SoCon play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams had scoring chances in the first half. Jordyn Ebert recorded eight saves in the first half. Late in the first half, Nicole Icen had a scoring chance but her shot went off the crossbar. Following the shot off the crossbar, UNCG had the next three scoring chances but Ebert recorded the saves.
Opening the second half, the Spartans come on the offensive attack. In a minute and a half span, UNCG had three shots on goal. The third shot by Gracie Timbario found the back of the net putting UNCG ahead, 1-0. Eleven minutes later, the Spartans found a loose ball and Grace Regal scored extending the lead to 2-0.
Over the final ten minutes, Mercer had four shots with two being on goal but could not score and were defeated by UNCG, 2-0.
NOTABLES
The Bears return to Betts Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 3 when they host The Citadel in SoCon action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
