Mercer men’s soccer set for two-game weekend in Birmingham

MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer is on the road this weekend, as the Bears head over to Birmingham, Ala., to participate in the Soccer for a Cure Classic hosted by UAB. Mercer will play the Blazers Friday night at 8 p.m. (ET) and then Memphis Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET).

NOTABLES

Mercer swept the SoCon's weekly awards for the opening weekend, as Trevor Martineau and JR DeRose were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Martineau scored a goal and assisted on a couple more to tally four points in the first two matches.
DeRose allowed just one goal in the first two matches, despite facing 27 total shots.
For the first time in program history, Mercer was picked to win the Southern Conference in the league's preseason poll.
Mercer is aiming for its fifth conference title in the last six years in the 2019 season – including three consecutive SoCon championships (2016, 2017, and 2018).

BEATING THE BLAZERS
UAB looks to rebound after two tough road losses last weekend in Wisconsin – dropping matches at Marquette and Wisconsin. The Blazers will be without leading goal scorer Grayson Dupont and defender Guillermo Rodriguez who are forced to sit after drawing red cards in their previous matchup against Wisconsin.

TAMING THE TIGERS
Memphis heads to Birmingham after splitting its two opening weekend matches. The Tigers' 4-0 win over Campbell helped spring them out to a great start to the season. Ben Roberts opened up the scoring in the 34^th minute before three second-half goals put the Camels away. Roberts was then named the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the week. Memphis leads the all-time series with Mercer, 3-0.
