Mercer Places 59 on 2019 Fall Academic All-SoCon Honor Roll

Bears tally the most academic All-SoCon selections
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer University placed 59 student-athletes on the 2019 Fall Academic All-Southern Conference Team, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears' 59 selections ranked first among all SoCon schools. Five of Mercer's six fall athletic programs had at least five student-athletes on the academic all-conference team, highlighted by football's SoCon-best 18 selections. Women's soccer (15), volleyball (8), men's cross country (8), men's soccer (6), women's cross country (4) rounded out Mercer's honorees with men's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball all leading their respective sports for the most selections. Four Bear's maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA: Collin Foster (football), Eric Jackson (football), Roberta Todd (volleyball), and Marina Van Sickle (women's cross-country).Â

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
