Mercer Leads SoCon in 2018-19 Academic All-Conference Selections

Mercer paced the league with 110 total selections on fall, spring teams
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer University's 18 athletics programs ranked atop the Southern Conference with 110 total academic all-conference selections during the 2018-19 academic year.

The Bears placed 65 student-athletes on the 2019 Spring Academic All-SoCon Team, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Mercer had previously placed 45 student-athletes on the 2018 Fall Academic All-SoCon Team.

It is the fourth consecutive academic year that Mercer has led the SoCon in total academic all-conference selections; 113 in 2017-18, 113 in 2016-17 and 97 in 2015-16. This year Mercer ranked ahead of Samford (107) and ETSU (107) in total academic all-conference selections.

Four Mercer programs that were included in the spring academic all-conference honorees – baseball (11), men's golf (5), men's tennis (5) and women's basketball (4) – led or were tied for the most selections among their respective sports. Mercer also had four individual student-athletes earn perfect 4.0 grade point averages as well.

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the spring semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
