Bears Drop Tightly Contested Match to Georgia Southern, 4-3

Mercer's Alara Hollyfield has won four consecutive singles matches
Macon, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team suffered a narrow setback to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 4-3, at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Sunday.
The day began with doubles action, and Maeva Roquebert and  Mary Courville made quick work of Arianne DeWinter and Mila Hartig with a 6-1 win at No. 1.
Georgia Southern tied doubles play when Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Diemen topped Marie Mottet and Lauren Rich, 6-3.
The Bears (3-7) were able to clinch the doubles point thanks to Alara Hollyfield and Anna Sovic winning a tightly contested match at No. 3, 7-6 (2).
When singles play began, Mercer extended its lead to 2-0 when Roquebert cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Boixader in the top flight.
Georgia Southern (6-3) won its first match of the day at No. 6 as Paula Hijos topped Sovic, 6-1, 6-0. The Eagles proceeded to tie things with a win in the No. 4 position. Rich won a pair of games in both sets but fell to Van Diemen by a pair of 2-6 scores.
Courville lost a hard-fought match in three sets at No. 3 ,and Georgia Southern briefly took a 3-2 lead.
Hollyfield battled for a come-from-behind win over Nadja Meier in the No. 2 position. After losing the opening set, 4-6, she tied the match with a 7-5 win in set two and earned the victory with a dominant 6-1 win in the third set.
In the final match of the day, Mottet battled for three sets at No. 5. After winning set one, 6-1, she lost set two, 5-7. In the winner-take-all third set, the Eagles' Mila Hartig won, 6-4, to clinch the match.
